Abstract

This article explores the use of Holocaust, genocide and human rights education to teach political competencies for American students in the 21st century.

Author Biographies

Rosanna M. Gatens, Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education at Florida Atlantic University

I am the Director for the Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education at Florida Atlantic University.  I am a member of the Department of Curriculum, Culture and Educational Inquiry at FAU.  I received my Ph.D. in European History from the University of Pittsburgh.  My writing and research is in the field of 20th Century German history, the Holocaust and Holocaust/genocide/human rights education.

 

Mary Jay Johnson, Facing History and Ourselves

I am a Senior Historian for a teacher training organization, Facing History and Ourselves.  I also adjunct at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Columbia College, S.C.  I began my teaching career in the Peace Corps, an experience that has influenced all my subsequent interests in social justice and human rights.
