Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission is original work.

  • Manuscript is aligned with the mission and purpose of the Journal of International Social Studies
  • The submitted manuscript is written in English (initial submission for review). After review and acceptance, a second copy of the same paper may be submitted in a second language.


  • The manuscript has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.

  • The submitted file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.

  • The submitted article is blinded, with all author(s) identifying information removed from the title page and body of the article, as well as from the document file properties.
  • The text follows the most recent APA guidelines, is double-spaced and uses a 12-point font in Times New Roman; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines section below.

Author Guidelines

The Journal of International Social Studies (JISS) is an internationally recognized double-blind peer-reviewed electronic journal. JISS is the official publication of The International Assembly (IA) of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS).

Manuscript must align with the mission and purpose of the Journal of International Social Studies

Authors must adhere to the guidelines of the most recent Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.

The submitted article is blinded, with all author(s) identifying information removed from the title page and body of the article, as well as from the document file properties.

Manuscripts must be submitted as a Microsoft Word (.docx) file and must be double-spaced using a 12-point font in Times New Roman; employ italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

Recommended manuscript length is 5,000 to 7,500 words, excluding references.

Include an abstract of 250 words or less.

Include a title page with author/s contact information. If the manuscript has more than one author, please indicate which author is acting as the contact person.

Include a statement indicating that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Include a statement saying that the copyright will be given to The Journal of International Social Studies should it be published in JISS.

The manuscript must be submitted via the journal's web site located at http://www.iajiss.org. Paper copies will not be accepted.

Media Review

May be reviews of books, film, internet resources or any other form of media.
